Two EQUAL teams for Coffs Rugby

Local rugby in Coffs Harbour is moving forward with the formation of two equal first grade teams in 2009.

The committee (with a majority vote from the players and supporters) has approved the decision to field two even 1st grade sides in the Mid North Coast Rugby competition.

The selection details of the two sides will follow next week, with the two squads named in the first week of March said Matt Quirk (Coffs Rugby President).

The equal team format will provide some very entertaining rugby when the two teams meet for the first time in late April.

While some believe it has slightly reduced our chance of beating some of the top teams on the MNC, the club and its players believe the two teams can make the semi finals.

We have some very good players joining the club in 2009 from both the junior ranks, returning players and guys that have moved to town. However, It will be a very tough year against teams like 2008 title holders Port Pirates, but we are looking forward to the challenge- said Matt Quirk.

In addition to the two equal teams, each side has been named the Coffs Rugby Crushers & the Coffs Rugby Breakers. However, the club name will remain as Coffs Rugby. The under 19s will follow the Crushers. The coaching staff will be announced next week.

Coffs Rugby is back training at Rugby Park on Hogbin drive every Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6pm for anyone interested in seniors and u/19s.
