RUGBY UNION LEADERSHIP SPILL

However, instead of turmoil, bad blood and infighting, outgoing president Matt Quirk was applauded at the recent AGM for the efforts and time is has put into the club over the last seven years of which he has been the treasurer and president. The last three years have been most rewarding to him as President with the club growing in leaps and bounds and mainly on the back of his work he finally deserves the rest. 2009 secretary Richard Officer takes over as president with a full crew of committee members to go hand in hand.

The most exciting thing is that the committee is finally starting to evolve with ex-players and supporters joining in. Having Nat Hoy (again) and now Julie McCabe and ex MNC Rugby President Geoff Bell on our committee brings a wealth of experience to the club so we can meet the needs of all our players, supporters and sponsors expressed Officer.

After such a successful year in 2009 with minor and major premiers for both first grade teams, Coffs Rugby is looking to go a little better in 2010. There will be six teams in first grade and Reserve grade is back on the agenda with most clubs including SCU University bullants nominating a team. On top of that we have plenty of interests in our u/19s team already. Training is set to start in late January.

Its our delight that we have managed to fill all of our coaching positions with quality coaches but are still looking for a reserve grade coach and managers for all four teams said Officer. The coaches and managers will be named in the week before Christmas so players know whats happening for next year. It also gives them a chance to get fit before coming along to the beach work in January.

In the short term the new Coffs Rugby committee is looking for a major sponsor as they went without one this year and relied on the plethora of other sponsors to keep them going. Our entire sponsors list gets bang for their buck so if anyone is interested (especially for a major sponsor) please visit our website and give us a call said Officer.

The only other thing on players minds now is how the teams will form for 2010 and with some retirees heading back to reserve grade plus young guns coming up from u/19s into firsts the warfare between the Crushers and Breakers is likely to erupt again.
